Cooperativity at Work

by NBULAI™

Some scientific questions are best answered not by a single discipline, but by coordinated expertise. Cooperativity™ brings together complementary scientific perspectives when a project benefits from deeper specialization.

Like a cooperative biological system, the strength of the whole increases when the right specialized functions interact at the right moment.

Selected comments from scientists, supervisors and collaborators I have had the opportunity to learn from and work with during my academic and research journey.

These excerpts reflect the authors’ professional views in their original academic or research context and do not imply sponsorship, partnership or endorsement of Cooperativity™.

"Dr. Sharifi's research, conducted in collaboration with IBSA Institut Biochimique, was exceptional. His work focused on the screening and development of compounds of natural origin with anti-aging activity, funded under the IBSA project titled: Screening of novel anti-aging compounds and development of promising natural molecules at the Department of Medicine, University of Padova. His comprehensive approach included validating molecules in various in vitro aging models and conducting in vivo studies with naturally aged and P16-LUC mice, which produced promising results. These contributions were pivotal to successful grant applications like Innosuisse. In my years of supervising numerous individuals, he consistently ranks in the top 10% of researchers."

— Prof. Andrea Alimonti, ETH Zurich / IOR Switzerland

"Saman brings a rare combination of pharmacological insight, experimental precision, and scientific creativity. His leadership in the post-discovery phase of our SenoTarg collaboration, including complex in vivo validation and multi-organ toxicity studies, was exceptional. His ability to coordinate across institutions, articulate mechanisms clearly, and guide high-impact manuscript revisions showed scientific maturity well beyond his years."

— Prof. Lucio Barile, Head of Cardiovascular Theranostics, Istituto Cardiocentro Ticino, Switzerland

"I observed Dr. Sharifi during his oral PhD evaluations, where his performance was recognized not just by me but by other faculty for his strong scientific attitude, ability to critically analyze data, and communicate complex ideas clearly."

— Prof. Nicola Ferri, Coordinator, PhD Program in Pharmacological Sciences, University of Padova

"He independently designed and conducted cellular senescence assays, identified and validated senolytic leads, and investigated their mechanistic underpinnings and toxicity. His scientific communication and teamwork were exceptional, and he consistently demonstrated a clear vision and strong passion for translational aging research."

— Prof. Monica Montopoli, University of Padova

"The data generated by Saman became the foundation for a successful grant and are now being finalized for submission to a top-tier journal. He was awarded the Institute's prize for Best Scientific Presentation. His expertise spans senescence, pharmacology, mouse models, and data storytelling."

— Dr. Sara Zumerle, Senior Postdoc & Supervisor, VIMM

"What makes Saman exceptional and what he brings is not only his technical command of drug discovery and aging biology, but also his ability to guide projects strategically. He knows how to shape experimental design, turn results into meaning, and communicate science with clarity and depth."

— Dr. Andre Djalalvandi, PhD, Senior PostDoc, McMaster University, Canada

"Saman consistently demonstrated a strong work ethic, deep engagement, and exceptional responsibility throughout our collaboration. His intellectual rigor, responsiveness to feedback, and commitment to scientific quality made him an outstanding and reliable research partner."

— Dr Chiara Bigogno, Laboratory Head, Co-founder, Scientific Advisor and BD

"Throughout this collaboration, Dr. Sharifi impressed me with his unwavering enthusiasm, meticulous scientific approach, and invaluable contributions, all of which were instrumental in the project's success. Dr. Sharifi impressed me with his unwavering enthusiasm, meticulous scientific approach, and invaluable contributions, all of which were instrumental in the project's success. His technical expertise spans various laboratory techniques, and he has demonstrated exceptional skill in systematic experimental design"

— Prof. Pietro Cippà, M.D. Ph.D., Chair of Nephrology, University of Basel Department of Biomedicine

"Saman displayed remarkable autonomy in identifying a promising molecule from natural sources. He meticulously evaluated its efficacy using various in vitro models of aging, showcasing his attention to detail. His exceptional proficiency in conducting independent in vivo experiments was evident as he meticulously investigated the anti-aging effects of the candidate molecule and the corresponding plant extract."
